For function rooms and event spaces

Function rooms ready for Martyn's Law, whoever has hired them.

Weddings, christenings, birthdays and works dos can fill a function room to the walls. Smallprint drafts your procedures, briefs your staff and gives every hirer a one-page safety sheet.

From £1.33 a week. Free until 1 March 2027.

A function hall set up for an evening event

Why it can feel hard for function rooms and event spaces

  • The room is busiest when it is hired out, and the hirer's guests do not know the building.
  • Events staff are often casual or agency, and change from one weekend to the next.
  • Layouts change with every booking, from long tables to a dance floor.

Questions we hear from function rooms and event spaces

Who is responsible when the room is hired out?

Usually whoever controls the premises, with the hirer responsible for their own event. The checker helps you work out the responsible person, and the hirer sheet covers the handover.

Our room only fills up a few times a month. Does it count?

The Act looks at how many people can reasonably be expected at once, from time to time. Regular full bookings usually count. The checker explains the result for your room.

We are part of a pub or hotel. Is that one venue or two?

Usually one set of premises. If the function room has its own entrance and runs separately, the checker will help you decide.
