Free checker · about 2 minutes · nothing is stored

Does Martyn's Law apply to you?

A few plain questions. You get a clear answer, the reasons, with the guidance paragraph for each, and what to do next.

A. What are you checking?

An indication based on the Home Office statutory guidance, not legal advice. Nothing you enter leaves your device unless you ask us to email it.
Built for the people behind the bar

Your team reads their part on their phone. You keep the proof.

Each person gets their own QR code. They read what to do in an emergency, take a two-minute quiz and sign off. No app, no account, no training day. You get a dated record for every one of them.

  • Works for bar staff, volunteers and casual shifts
  • Translated cards for staff who read better in another language
  • Reminders when someone is due a refresher

Check

Find out which tier you are in with the free checker, and who counts as the responsible person.

2

Build

Answer questions about your building. Smallprint drafts your four procedures, with message scripts for WhatsApp and PA announcements.

3

Brief

Send staff and volunteers their procedures. They read, take a short quiz and sign off. You see who is outstanding.

4

Prove

Log drills with photos, set annual reviews, and export one evidence pack whenever someone asks.

Everything in one place

The whole job, not just a template.

Templates are a start. Smallprint adds the part regulators and insurers actually ask about: proof that people were briefed and procedures were practised.

Procedure builder

Evacuation, invacuation, lockdown and communication, generated from a short questionnaire about your building and shaped to your roles, exits and safer areas.

Annual reviews, plus prompts when your layout, capacity or events change.

Inspector-ready evidence pack

One PDF with your procedures, sign-offs, drills, reviews and a full version history. Export it in a click when an inspector, insurer or trustee asks.

Signage and QR posters

Printable notices for exits and safer areas that link to the right procedure.

Hirer briefing sheets

Give anyone hiring your hall a short sheet to read and sign before their event.

Straight talking

What Smallprint is. And what it is not.

You should know exactly what you are buying.

What it is

  • A preparation and record-keeping tool built around the Home Office statutory guidance.
  • Plain-English procedures that you adapt to your building and your people.
  • Dated records that show what you did, who knew, and when you last reviewed it.

What it is not

  • Legal advice. Speak to a solicitor about your own situation.
  • A promise that you comply. The responsible person stays responsible.
  • Endorsed by the Home Office, the SIA or the Martyn's Law campaign.
Every document keeps a version historyUpdated when the guidance changes
Questions

Answers before you ask.

If your venue or event can hold 200 people or more at once, the Act applies and you will need four procedures in place and to notify the Security Industry Authority. Use the free checker above, and read the Home Office statutory guidance for how capacity is measured.

No. Smallprint is a preparation and record-keeping tool. It does not give legal advice and does not make anyone compliant. The responsible person stays responsible for meeting their duties.

Enforcement is expected from spring 2027. Dates can change, and we update the product and tell customers when the regulator publishes anything new.

It is designed for people who give a few hours a month. You answer a short questionnaire, send briefings, and log drills. Everything is in plain English.

In the UK. Floor plans and security details are sensitive, so access is controlled, every edit is logged, and we provide a data processing agreement.

Monthly plans can be cancelled at any time. Smallprint is free until 1 March 2027. You add a card to secure your place, nothing is taken before then, and you can cancel before it. If you go straight to a yearly plan without using the free period, you get a 30-day money-back guarantee. You can export your records before you leave.
